Richard graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1979 with Juris Doctor and Master of Public Policy degrees, and he received a BA degree in Philosophy from Oberlin College in Ohio in 1975. Richard enjoyed a 27 year career in the Department of Justice, where he prosecuted white collar crime, including tax fraud, pension fund embezzlement and environmental crimes, among others.  He joined the North Carolina Bar and the Estate Planning Section of the North Carolina Bar Association in 2005.

Richard is the proud father of a 16 year old autistic son, Jay, and is committed to helping families of special needs children to provide for their future.
